The Apple iPad has been one of the most successful consumer electronics devices of 2010, having already sold over 3 million units in just its first 80 days.
Demand for the iPad has been so strong in the UK that Apple has so far had to prioritise stock fro the Apple UK store, meaning that its resellers (PC World and Currys) have so far not had enough stock to offer the iPad online and often store availability has been patchy as well.
It would therefore make sense that the demand for the iPad is going to continue in the UK for a good while and definitely through Christmas 2010.
In the last few years we are all familiar with the stories of Nintendo’s Wii and Wii Fit being more in demand seemingly then a big ‘ole lump of Gold come Christmas time. So will it be the same for the Apple iPad this Christmas?
Probably ‘Yes’.
Estimates around Apple’s ability to produce iPads range from anywhere between 2 million a month to 3.5 million units a quarter. But the reality is that no-one has a guaranteed figure, but we are all aware that stock levels are currently stretched and a Christmas boost in demand could stretch that stock too far.
However, it is more likely that the iPad’s new cousin, the iPhone 4 is more likely to be the real must have of Christmas 2010. 3 million iPhone 4’s were sold in just the first 22 days of sales and even with the recent antenna problems, the phone continues to sell in huge numbers.
So it looks like we can look forward to tales on the news of people fighting each other and paying way over the odds for the iPhone 4 this Christmas. What we can expect for sure is that Apple and Mr Jobs will be having a very merry Christmas and most probably a Happy New Year.
